A Study to Evaluate the Effectiveness of Mindfulness movement to overcome the Stress among First Year Nursing students in selected Nursing College, Maharashtra

ABSTRACT:
Objectives: 1. To assess level of stress among first year nursing student in a selected nursing college. 2. To evaluate the effectiveness of mindfulness movement to overcome the stress among first nursing student in a selected nursing college. 3. To find out the association between pre test score among first nursing student with selected socio demographical variable Material and Methods: The research approach adopted in this study is Interventional approach. A one group pre test and post test design was chosen for the study. The sample were selected conveniently to suit the study. Sample size was 60. Results: 1. The above table shows that each 40% of the first year nursing students were having moderate stress, 6.6% have of them were having severe stress, 6.6% have no stress and 46.6% students have mild stress Minimum stress score in pretest was 14 and maximum stress score in pretest was 55. Mean stress score in pretest was 33.15 and mean percentage of stress score in pre test was 55.25%. 2. The above bar graph shown that out of 70% first students have no stress, 23.3% have mild stress and 6.6% have moderate stress. Minimum stress score in posttest was 13 and maximum stress score in post test was 42. Mean stress score in post test was 9.0 and mean percentage of stress score in post test was 15% 3. Demographical variables age, religion, family income, had shown statistically significant association with pre test level of stress score at p<0.05 among first year nursing students. level mode of stay, family income, area of residential, had not statistically significant association with pre test score at p<0.05 among first year nursing students. Conclusion: The present study assessed the effectiveness of mindfulness movements to overcome the stress among first year nursing students in selected nursing college. The study revealed students have stress about academic and environments managements for that manage we administrated mindfulness movements. The pre-test conducted to identify the level of stress among first nursing students. The results revealed that mindfulness movements is very effective in decreasing the level stress at p<0.05 level. From the findings of the study, the investigator concluded that mindfulness movements has an important role in decreasing the level of stress among first year nursing students. The results of the study will enable the students was mange with external environments and academic, when dealing with any stress. mindfulness movements is one of the effective methods in imparting the overcome stress among first year nursing students. the mindfulness movements may be implemented by involving first year nursing students for overcome the stress. Hence it is concluded that the mindfulness movements is an effective strategy where by the first year students could be helped overcome stress and mange with academic environments.

INTRODUCTION:

Stress can be defined as any type of change that causes physical, emotional, or psychological strain. Stress is your body's response to anything that requires attention or action.in this study stress is due to external environment, syllabus, new friends, teachers. Stimuli that alter an organism's environment are responded to by multiple systems in the body. Cause of stress is such as emotional problem (depression, anxiety, anger grief, guilt low self esteem). in this study cause of stress of student mostly environment adjustment, friends circle, new syllabus ect.1
Sign and symptoms are low energy, headache, upset stomach, pain and rapid heart beat, insomnia, frequent clods and infection, tens muscles ect. Incidences and prevalence related to stress in UK across 1.380 cases per per 100.00 averages over the period of 2016/1/and 2018/19. the prevalence of stress among year was as follows. first year 78.7%, second year 70.8%, third year 68%, fouth year 43.2%. in Canada stress as the reason for leaving job while 73 per cent of all working adults aged 20 to 64 year .according to statistics Canada 23er cent of people over the age of 15year and 30 per cent of 35 to 4year.2
In India prevalence of stress among those student was 54% in 2011/12 and 60% in year of 2014/16, 44% year of 2018/19. In current century stress among students was 50% in 2019 and 20202
Stress may strive in appearing examinations, new environment, new friends, new syllabus, long hours of study, assignments and grades, lack of free time, and lack of timely feedback after their performance, special elements of the academic programmed like arrangement and conduction of workshops, also produce stress among student nurses. And also clinical sources of stress like while taking care of critically ill patients, interpersonal conflict with peer group, insecurity about personal clinical competence, fear related to complete their clinical requirements, dealing with uncooperative patients, work overload, prolonged standing, learning psychomotor skills, e.g. administering injections and performing catheterization, have also been associated with high levels of stress.
Mindfulness movement has been proven effective for reducing stress. Recently healthcare providers of multiple disciplines are overwhelmingly turning to the practice of mindfulness meditation as a useful tool in building a self-care routine.
Movement has several benefits such as deeper level of relaxation, builds self-confidence,, helps to control own thought, Improve learning ability and memory, increase emotional stability, increase productivity, develop will power, react more quickly and more effectively to a stressful event, more sociable behaviour, increases listening skills and empathy, helps make more accurate judgments, greater tolerance, more balanced personality, develops emotional maturity. Experience an inner sense of “assurance or knowingness”, increases the synchronicity in your life.
REVIEW OF LITERATURE:
1. Study about experienced stressors and coping strategies among Iranian nursing students. Most students reported finding new friends (76.2%), working with people they did not know (63.4%) as interpersonal sources of stress, new responsibilities (72.1%), started college (65.8%) as intrapersonal sources of stress more than others. The most frequent academic source of stress was increased class workload (66.9%) and the most frequent environmental sources of stress were being placed in unfamiliar situations (64.2%) and waiting in long lines (60.4%). Interpersonal and environmental sources of stress were reported more frequently than intrapersonal and academic sources. Mean interpersonal (P=0.04) and environmental (P=0.04) sources of stress were significantly greater in first year than in fourth year students3.
2. This study was conducted with aim to identified the stress level causing factors .the researcher used cross sectional design of research both by adopting quantitative and qualitative methods .the was collected through stratified random sampling technique with utilization of structured pre test questionnaire . the finding suggested that perceived stress level was 31.09 which exceed the SD = 8.91 and this was significant higher in the study sample.it further discussed that gender, pocket money, social support and relationship with their classmates, physical problem and substance use were the factors which contribute stress among study group.4
3. The experimental study was conducted on an aim to assess basic BSc nursing students .this was conducted on 150 sample from first year, second year, third year and from fourth year. The result finding stated are that major factor of stress among basic B.Sc. nursing students .were clinical and academic stressor .the mean stress score was 5.96 among sample. whose father were working in the defense service was 8.75 it. Significant that score among sample .the researcher recommendation were that for nursing teacher that should take for the keeping learning environment caring and supportive 5
4. The study was conducted to reduce stress by mindfulness meditation Mindfulness meditation defined, and the practices of breathing meditation, eating meditation, walking meditation, and mindful yoga are described. Data analysis examined compliance, medical and psychological symptom reduction, and changes in self-esteem, statistically significant decreases in medical and psychological symptoms and improvement in self-esteem was found. The article includes a discussion of factors to be considered when establishing a mindfulness meditation based stress reduction programme in a health care setting.
5. The study was conducted to use of meditation--relaxation techniques for the management of stress in a working population. A total of 154 New York Telephone employees Self-selected for stress learned one of three techniques--clinically standardized Meditation (CSM), respiratory one method meditation (ROM) or progressive Relaxation (PMR)--or served as waiting list controls. The meditation groups had a 78% compliance Rate at 5.5 months with treatment effect seen whether subjects practiced their Techniques frequently or occasionally. The safe and inexpensive semi-automated Meditation training has considerable value for stress-management programs in Organizational settings.6
MATERIAL AND METHODS:
The research approach adopted in this study is Interventional approach. A one group pre test and post test design was chosen for the study.. The sample were selected conveniently to suit the study.sample size was 60.
RESULT:
The data was analyzed by using inferential and descriptive statistics on the basis of objectives.
1. Assessment of Level of Stress Among first Year Nursing Students in Selected Nursing College of Mahareashtra:
This section deals with the assessment of level of stress among firs year nursing students in selected nursing college of Maharashtra. The level of stress score is divided under following heading of strongly agree, agree, neutral, strongly disagree and disagree.

RESULT:

In pre test When discussed about nurses among first year nursing students out of 60(100%), 4(6.6%) students had no stress, 28(46.6%) had mild stress and 24(4.%) had moderate stress and reaming students had severe stress
